3 Ways to Stay Hydrated and Cool This Summer
Summer is here and while we absolutely love the longer days and beautiful sunshine, it also brings on excessive heat that can put you at risk of dehydration. Staying hydrated and cool supports your energy levels and increases overall physical and mental wellness. Here are three tips to stay hydrated, cool, and safe this summer:
Add Flavor to Your Water
If you aren’t a fan of water by itself, consider adding some flavor! Lemon, cucumber, berries, or mint can make water more enjoyable and encourage you to drink more throughout the day.
Tip: Prepare a pitcher of infused water in the refrigerator for a refreshing treat that's ready whenever you need it.
Eat Hydrating Foods
Many fruits and vegetables contain high amounts of water. Watermelon, strawberries, cucumbers, oranges, and celery are all excellent choices for staying refreshed during hot weather.
Tip: Keep pre-cut fruits and vegetables in the refrigerator for a cool and healthy snack.
Be Strategic About Outdoor Activities
When temperatures rise, planning ahead can help you stay cool and comfortable. Consider scheduling walks, gardening, and other outdoor activities during the morning or evening hours when the sun isn’t as strong. If you do need to be outside during the hottest part of the day, sit in the shade and take breaks indoors.
Tip: Check the daily forecast before heading out and plan activities around the coolest parts of the day.
