Healthy Routines for Better Sleep
Sleep impacts more than just our energy levels. It’s connected to our physical and mental health, cognitive ability, and it impacts how we age. When life gets busy, our sleep is often the first thing we choose to sacrifice. Making small changes to prioritize your sleep will allow you to show up as your best, healthy self every day.
Keep a Consistent Sleep Schedule
Going to bed and waking up at the same time each day helps regulate your body's internal clock. Even if you don't fall asleep right away, maintaining a regular schedule can make it easier to develop healthier sleep habits over time. Try to choose a bedtime that allows you to get 7 to 8 hours of sleep each night, and stick with it as consistently as possible.
Create a Calming Evening Routine
Your body and mind need time to wind down before bed. Spend the last 30 to 60 minutes of your evening doing something relaxing, like reading a book or stretching. It's also a good idea to limit screen time before bed, as the light from phones and televisions can make it harder to fall asleep.
Stay Active During the Day
Regular physical activity can help you fall asleep faster and improve the quality of your sleep. Incorporating some movement into your day reduces stress and helps us fall into deep, restorative sleep. Even light exercise, like taking a walk or gardening can make a difference.
Healthy sleep starts with healthy routines. By sticking to a consistent sleep schedule, creating a relaxing bedtime routine, and staying active during the day, you can set yourself up for more restful nights. Wake up feeling refreshed and ready to enjoy the day!
